Report: AEW's Interest In Aleister Black Sparks Further Discussions Among Top WWE Executives

Black was released by WWE two weeks ago

The decision to release Aleister Black earlier this month reportedly continues to be a hot topic of conversation internally among top WWE executives, with many still wondering if the move was premature.

Black was one of six names let go by WWE at the beginning of June. The former NXT Champion had just re-debuted on SmackDown with an altered gimmick, after he and the promotion put significant time and effort in developing the character in weekly vignettes.

Talks continue among some individuals in the higher echelons of WWE about Black and, according to PWInsider, those conversations have increased in frequency since rumours of All Elite Wrestling's interest in signing the 36-year-old.

Samoa Joe, who was released by WWE in April, has since returned to the promotion with NXT in a non-wrestling capacity, which proves the company is happy to admit an error and bring back a previously departed superstar.

While there is no move as of writing to make that decision, it appears certain WWE executives are continuing to second-guess the decision to let Black depart.
