AAA and All Elite Wrestling have enjoyed a solid working relationship over the past few years, with the likes of Kenny Omega and FTR having held top titles in AAA whilst part of the AEW roster.
However, it seems that the relationship between the two sides is on rocky ground, with a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggesting that the recent AAA World Tag Title change from FTR to the team of Dralistico and Dragon Lee has caused friction between the two sides.
Meltzer reported that AAA are considering Kenny Omega for a possible TripleMania match against El Hijo del Vikingo, but AEW were left angry over the aforementioned tag title switch, due to Dragon Lee signing with WWE before the match, with AAA fully aware of the situation.
Lee not only got the deciding pin to defeat FTR for the titles, but proceeded to announce his WWE contract immediately following the win, vacating the titles in the process. AEW were allegedly under the impression that the match would see RUSH teaming with Dralistico, with the pair able to defend the titles in AAA going forward, and with RUSH being an AEW contracted star it wouldn't have been an issue for him to defeat FTR.
With the switch - and subsequent press release and story in ESPN announcing Lee's WWE deal - it angered AEW, as a now WWE talent defeated their strongest tag team, with Meltzer suggesting that WWE did this to rub AEW's face in it.
Meltzer also reported that Konnan personally travelled to AEW in Orlando at the end of January in order to smooth things over with AEW, but it's unknown at this time how his attempts went.
