Report: Backstage News On Scrapped AEW Dynamite Plans For Kenny Omega & Others

Last-minute changes were made to the August 30 edition of AEW Dynamite in Chicago, Illinois, with Tony Khan announcing ahead of the show that changes had been made to Dynamite due to minor illnesses and travel issues stemming from Hurricane Idalia. 

Further details about what exactly changed on Dynamite has been revealed, with Dave Meltzer reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW were going to book another angle between Kenny Omega and Konosuke Takeshita to build to their All Out match but Omega and other wrestlers based in Florida were unable to leave the state due to the hurricane. AEW Women's World Champion Saraya and Swerve Strickland were also originally scheduled to be on Dynamite but they were pulled from the show because of illness. 

"So they were going to do stuff to build that up tonight. But because of the hurricane, Kenny Omega didn't make it. A lot of the Florida people... Tonight's show was redone at the last minute because Saraya and Swerve [Strickland] were pulled from the show for illness reasons. I know many Florida guys, including Omega, because of the hurricane couldn't get out of Florida to come to Chicago. I know [Chris] Jericho was there. I know that there was concern about Jericho not being there, but he was there. So that was one of the reasons why the show seemed thrown together because it was thrown together," Meltzer said.

Matches that did take place on Dynamite included Jon Moxley vs. Komander, Eddie Kingston vs. Wheeler Yuta, and Orange Cassidy vs. Penta El Zero Miedo.  Don Callis also trained Konosuke Takeshita on what to do against Kenny Omega during Dynamite to promote Sunday's match.
