Report: Johnny Gargano's WWE Contract Expiring In December

What's next for the former NXT champion?

Johnny Gargano's WWE contract is set to expire in less than three months, according to a report from Fightful Select.

The report reads, "NXT Triple Crown Champion Johnny Gargano's WWE contract is expiring December 3, 2021. WWE sources confirmed the news with Fightful Select on Monday afternoon. Thus far, WWE sources have indicated to Fightful that Johnny Gargano and WWE have not entered into negotiations to extend his contract, but that WWE "expected to" in the fall."

The report goes on to say that with Gargano's contract, it's not at all like the situations involving Adam Cole and Pete Dunne, wherein WWE was caught off guard by the impending expiration dates of their deals.

Fightful's report also states that Gargano's deal ends around the time WWE believed Cole's deal was expiring, and had intended on speaking with both simultaneously about re-signing (before discovering that Cole's deal actually ran out in July).

Gargano signed with WWE in July 2016, and has mostly wrestled since for NXT. He and Cole are the only two male wrestlers to win NXT's Triple Crown (consisting of the NXT, Tag Team, and North American titles).
