Report: Jon Moxley Was A Free Agent While AEW World Champion

Jon Moxley could have jumped ship as AEW World Champion

Jon Moxley won't be departing All Elite Wrestling anytime soon and the AEW World Champion has signed a new five-year deal that will keep him with the promotion through 2027.

Moxley initially signed with AEW in 2019, debuting at Double or Nothing, and he did not immediately sign an extension after his old deal expired, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. This left Moxley as a free agent while he was in his second reign as AEW World Champion.

"There was a period where he was a free agent and obviously, was the champion...I don't know the timing of the signing. I know the announcement was going to be made Tuesday in Cincinnati [October 18 edition of Dynamite]. But they jumped it up, and I could be wrong. But I presume because, you know, AEW has had a bad string of publicity. So when he was world champion, whether the pen was to paper or not, he for sure promised he was staying," Meltzer said.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that Moxley re-signed around the All Out pay-per-view on September 4.

There was never any concern that Moxley would be leaving AEW. In fact, a new report has stated that Moxley was never interested in going back to WWE
