Report: Kevin Patrick Out As WWE SmackDown Commentator

Kevin Patrick to be removed from WWE SmackDown

Changes are coming soon to WWE SmackDown.

According to Aaron Varble of SE Scoops, Kevin Patrick is out as the play-by-play announcer on Friday Night SmackDown. WWE decided to make the change because "it just wasn't working out."

"SmackDown set for a change. Kevin Patrick is out. No replacement named yet. Reason I was given: 'It just wasn’t working out,'" Varble tweeted.

Patrick's removal from WWE SmackDown has been confirmed by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer

Patrick has been a part of WWE since 2021. He was initially the play-by-play announcer on Raw from October 2022 before he was moved into a colour commentary role on SmackDown in the Summer of 2023, reportedly so Michael Cole could help with Patrick's development.

Cole departed SmackDown to begin 2024, with Patrick once again becoming the lead announcer alongside Corey Graves as colour. It was stated that Patrick needed to step up as a commentator in the new year but he has seemingly failed to impress on SmackDown.

Alongside his WWE duties, Patrick provides commentary for the MLS on Apple TV under his real name, Kevin Egan.
