Report: Kofi Kingston Questionable For WWE WrestleMania 39

Update on Kofi Kingston following his WWE SmackDown injury

Following a leg injury on the March 3 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Kofi Kingston is questionable for WrestleMania 39.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted it is unclear at this time if Kingston will need surgery but WWE are hopeful the former world champion won't need to go under the knife. If he can avoid surgery, Kingston will still be "touch and go" for WrestleMania.

"If he has surgery, which from what I understand they're hopeful of avoiding. If he has surgery, obviously, it's going to be a while. If he doesn't have surgery it will be less time. Kofi Kingston will probably not be, almost assuredly will not be in that match [on SmackDown next week]. If he can be ready for WrestleMania, I don't want to say 100% no but it'll be touch and go if he can make it for WrestleMania if he doesn't get surgery. Like I said, he's hopeful he was not going to get surgery. So, it's going to be time off but perhaps not that much time off," Meltzer said.

Kingston sustained the injury on SmackDown after being involved in a brawl with LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Karrion Kross, and fellow New Day faction-mate Xavier Woods over who deserved to face GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.

The brawl set up a Fatal 5-Way for SmackDown that will see LA Knight, Karrion Kross, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and Kingston fight it out for a Mania title shot. If WWE will replace Kofi Kingston in the match with Xavier Woods remains to be seen.
