Report: Last Night's WWE NXT Iron Man Match Almost Had A Different Finish

A new champion will be crowned next week...

On last night's edition of NXT, Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa and Adam Cole faced off in a Fatal 4-Way 60-minute Iron Man match. The former NXT Champions battled back and forth throughout the contest but they were tied at one fall apiece heading into the final minute.

Ciampa seemingly had the match won as he hit his longtime nemesis and former friend Johnny Gargano with the Kryptonite Krunch from the top rope. The Blackheart didn't have time to make the cover, however, as Balor appeared from out of nowhere and connected with a hellacious Coup De Grace. He then crawled and pinned Ciampa to take the lead with 18 seconds to go. Before The Prince could even get back to his feet, though, Adam Cole suddenly caught him with the Last Shot and pinned him only milliseconds before time expired.

With Cole and Balor tied at two falls apiece, William Regal charged to the ring and announced the two Superstars will go one on one on next week's show under sudden death rules.

The finish left many fans frustrated, particularly as the match ended without a new champion being crowned.

Soon after the bout, WrestleVotes reported fans were almost given a conclusive finish in which Pat McAfee would have returned to the black and gold brand and cost Adam Cole the title.

WrestleVotes tweeted: "The two ideas for the finish of tonight's Iron Man match were either Pat McAfee costing Adam Cole the match -OR- the match ending after 60 minutes tied and starting the sudden death overtime next week as the show comes on the air."
