Report: Major Update On The Rock's WWE WrestleMania 39 Status

The Rock at WWE WrestleMania 39?

A major update on The Rock's status for WrestleMania 39 has emerged.

Rumours have noted for the past several months that WWE want The Great One to face his cousin Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at The Showcase of the Immortals, with WWE even considering having Reigns wrestle on both nights at one point.

Any match was ultimately dependent on The Rock deciding to return, though, and according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, unless Rocky changes his mind in the next few days, The Rock won't be at 'Mania as he feels he doesn't have enough time to get in shape for a main event match. The Brahma Bull has kept the door open for a future match.

Meltzer did note, however, that he could not confirm that The Rock has officially turned down the match and it is still possible that a Rock return is being kept a closely-guarded secret.

Alongside his busy movie schedule, The Rock is set to be heavily involved in the launch of the XFL, with the American football league's opening matches scheduled for the weekend of February 18.

WWE do have a backup plan in place should The Rock not be available for WrestleMania, with many speculating that Cody Rhodes will win the Royal Rumble and face Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows.
