Report: Mercedes Moné Held "Significant Discussions" With AEW About Forbidden Door

AEW and Mercedes Moné reportedly held discussions about Forbidden Door II

All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling are set to open the Forbidden Door once more on June 25, with the hotly anticipated Forbidden Door II event set for Toronto, Canada.

So far a rematch between IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay, and a dream match pitting Bryan Danielson against Kazuchika Okada have been announced for the show, but a report from Sports Illustrated suggests that Mercedes Moné and AEW were in discussions about working together for the show.

SI suggest that ‘multiple’ sources close to AEW President Tony Khan claimed AEW and Moné had ‘significant discussions’ about working together at Forbidden Door II, but how these talks went is unknown. With Moné recently suffering an injury during a match against Willow Nightingale at the recent NJPW STRONG Resurgence show, any potential appearance appears to be off the cards.

The working relationship between AEW and NJPW is obviously strong and healthy, and it is possible that Moné working in an AEW ring could occur in the future. But for now, though, full steam towards Forbidden Door II.
