The announcement that Tony Hinchcliffe would be hosting a Roast of WrestleMania following night two of WrestleMania 41 generated somewhat of a backlash on social media, with many criticising the decision for WWE to work with the controversial comedian. That same outrage did not take hold within the company, however.
Sean Ross Sapp noted on a Fightful Select Q&A that there were some eye rolls amongst people within WWE but most within the company "just don't care" about Hinchcliffe hosting the post-WrestleMania 41 event.
"Honestly, there were some eye rolls but most people in WWE just don't care, to be honest with you. And Tony knows a lot of those people in WWE and they get along with them. I haven't heard the same outrage internally as I have online," Sean Ross Sapp said.
Tony Hinchcliffe was condemned from across the political spectrum in late 2024 after making racist jokes at Donald Trump's rally from Madison Square Garden during the WWE Hall of Famer's presidential campaign. During a speech, Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean", suggested Latinos "loved making babies", called Palestinians rock-throwers, and drew on racist tropes around black people and watermelons.
The Roast of WrestleMania will be held at the BleauLive Theater in Las Vegas at 10 pm PT on Sunday, April 20. The non-televised event will be hosted by Hinchcliffe and the likes of Sami Zayn, The Miz, Braun Strowman, and Paul Heyman will be featured. WrestleMania 41 will emanate from Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20.
