Report: No Plans For Kenny Omega Vs. Will Ospreay In AEW

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay not factored for an AEW match

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 is on the horizon, and with it one of the most hotly anticipated singles matches of the last few years, as Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega will finally go one-on-one in the Tokyo Dome.

The two had long clashed on social media before finally meeting in the AEW Trios Title Tournament in August, but a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that a singles bout between the two hasn’t been considered by AEW.

Although the two first clashed on AEW TV, Meltzer suggests the plan was always to have the singles match at Wrestle Kingdom, rather than have a bout on an AEW PPV. Meltzer further claims that the angle was put together by Omega with the blessing of Tony Khan.

Omega laid down the challenge to Ospreay for Wrestle Kingdom 17 at NJPW x Stardom Historic X-Over on November 20, with Omega set to make his first appearance in an NJPW ring since WrestleKingdom 13 in January 2019 where ‘The Cleaner’ dropped the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi.
