It is widely expected that WWE will soon announce that this year's SummerSlam will take place at the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It has been reported for a number of months that WWE are eager to have 'the biggest part of the Summer' at an outdoor stadium and, while the Allegiant Stadium does not have a retractable roof, the specially-designed doors and roof allow for an outdoor setting.

SummerSlam 2021 is expected to be on Sunday 22 August but, according to Wrestling Inc, WWE may now re-evaluate their plans for the pay-per-view after it was announced that Manny Pacquiao would face Errol Spence Jr. in a big-money boxing match in Las Vegas on Saturday 21 August, the night before the WWE show.

With the highly anticipated boxing showdown set for Nevada too, WWE is no longer the biggest show in Las Vegas on that particular August weekend. The promotion may struggle to fill the Allegiant Stadium with 60,000 fans, with Las Vegas already traditionally a difficult territory to sell professional wrestling.

The idea for SummerSlam 2021, according to the report, was to hold it in a tourist city where it could be reasonably expected that fans would fly over and help fill the stadium. WWE has also discussed Allegiant Stadium as a potential WrestleMania host city for the future.

It remains to be seen if the boxing announcement does force WWE to switch their summer plans.
