Report: Reason AEW Brought Back Colt Cabana Revealed

Colt Cabana made his AEW return on the November 2 Dynamite

When ROH World Champion Chris Jericho promised to fight ‘any former champion’ from Ring of Honor’s past, wrestling fans wondered if Colt Cabana could step up to the plate, with the former ROH Tag Team Champion absent from AEW TV for months, reportedly due to his issues with CM Punk.

Cabana indeed took on Jericho on the November 2 Dynamite, and a report from Fightful Select says that ‘a dozen or so’ AEW talents reached out to talk of their support for Cabana being back in the fold.

Dave Meltzer followed up in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, saying that Cabana’s appearance on Dynamite was for the locker-room rather than a shot at CM Punk, with Cabana noted to be very popular with the AEW talent.

Cabana’s disappearance from AEW TV was said by some to be a move to potentially appease CM Punk due to the long standing animosity between the two after their lawsuit against former WWE doctor Chris Amann, although Punk has denied that he was anything to do with Cabana being removed from TV, with Meltzer saying the decision to bring Cabana back to Dynamite was a Tony Khan idea.

Whilst Cabana’s Dynamite appearance is believed to be a one-off - with Cabana set to be an ROH performer only when Khan’s second brand finally gets some form of TV/streaming deal - it is believed that this return could see Cabana possibly pop up in an AEW ring in the future.
