Report: Reason WWE Created The New World Heavyweight Title Revealed

Why Triple H decided to establish the new WWE World Heavyweight Title has been revealed

Triple H made a major announcement on the April 24 edition of Monday Night Raw, unveiling the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship that will see both main roster brands have their own world champion.

The Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will end up on whatever brand Roman Reigns is drafted to during the upcoming WWE Draft on April 28 and May 1, while the WWE World Heavyweight Title will be on the other brand. The inaugural champion will be crowned at the Night of Champions pay-per-view on May 27.

Rumours about a new WWE world title belt had been swirling since March and if The Rock had agreed to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, the new title reportedly would have been introduced then in a match involving a combination of Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, or Drew McIntyre.

Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated has since reported that the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship was a Triple H decision as the WWE Chief Content Officer believes Raw needs a world champion, with the belief being that Roman Reigns will be selected for Friday Night SmackDown.

Some questioned why someone like GUNTHER with the Intercontinental Title couldn't be moved to Raw and established as the brand's main champion but multiple sources told SI that Triple H prefers having world champions on separate brands.

The new champion being crowned at Night of Champions is reportedly being done to "please business partners in Saudi Arabia." The show was originally set to be King & Queen of the Ring but that was changed in recent weeks.

Why WWE didn't just split the WWE and Universal titles is unknown.
