Report: Reason WWE Think Cody Rhodes Hasn't Signed Yet Revealed

Cody Rhodes is strongly rumoured to be joining WWE

The saga of Cody Rhodes back to the WWE rumbles on, with ‘The American Nightmare’ rumoured to be rejoining WWE ever since he departed AEW last month.

With WrestleMania 38 just around the corner, you’d assume WWE would want to tie Rhodes down so he could appear at ‘The Grandaddy of ‘em All’, but according to a report from Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are several different reasons why a deal has not been agreed between Rhodes and WWE.

Per Meltzer, the ‘terminology’ he was given from WWE was that they believe Rhodes is angling for a better deal realising that he has leverage if WWE are desperate to bring him in in time for Mania. The report also states that WWE believe Rhodes could even be pulling a ‘Brian Pillman’ and using WWE for publicity before returning to AEW as a bigger name who cheated the system.

Pillman, during an angle that saw him kayfabe fired from WCW and was to lead to him returning as a counter culture anti-hero, famously convinced Eric Bischoff to legitimately fire him from his WCW contract in 1996, before going to ECW, and then negotiating a hefty ironclad contract with WWE.

Meltzer finished by suggesting that there is even the chance that a deal between Rhodes and WWE might not even happen.
