Report: Rey Mysterio Injured, Pulled From SmackDown World Cup

Mysterio is expected to miss a few weeks

WWE SmackDown star Rey Mysterio is sidelined with an injury, and has been pulled from the SmackDown World Cup as a result.

Dave Meltzer confirmed an earlier report from Ringside News that Mysterio had been replaced in the tournament by Mustafa Ali, due to a lower body injury.

Meltzer wrote, "Rey Mysterio was scheduled for the World Cup but he had either a foot or an ankle injury and was replaced by Mustafa Ali. He was in Indianapolis backstage with a walking boot on. He's not expected to be out more than a few weeks but wasn't going to be able to do the tournament."

Ali will face Ricochet in the quarterfinal round on this Friday's SmackDown. The winner gets Santos Escobar in the semifinals.

Mysterio's most recent match took place at a house show on October 30 in Mexico City, where he teamed with AJ Styles and Raquel Rodriguez to face Damian Priest, Finn Balor, and Rhea Ripley in a six person tag. His most recent televised match was a loss to Intercontinental champion Gunther that aired five nights later, but was taped before the Mexico City card.
