Monday Night Raw emanated from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 4 and WWE ended up changing some of their plans for the show late on.

PWInsider reported that original plans on Raw called for Kevin Owens to appear and face JD McDonagh in a singles match. That match didn't end up happening, however, even though Owens was backstage in Charlotte. There is no word on why the match with McDonagh was nixed.

"While it was stated Kevin Owens was not at Raw, he was backstage and late in the day, he was slated to wrestle JD McDonagh, so there was obviously a change in plans," PWInsider wrote.

Sami Zayn instead went one-on-one with JD McDonagh and he ultimately lost to The Irish Ace following interference from Dominik Mysterio which allowed McDonagh to roll up Zayn for the pinfall. The former Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion ended the segment standing tall after taking out McDonagh with a Helluva Kick after the bell.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been locked in a programme with Judgment Day in recent months. The babyfaces ended up losing the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships to Finn Balor & Damian Priest at Payback in a Steel City Street Fight.
