In the past few days, Sting's status in WWE became more and more unclear. The Icon was advertised to be a part of Mattel's WWE Legends Series 7 along with Greg Valentine, Razor Ramon, and Bobby Heenan but Brian Myers' and Matt Cardona's Major Wrestling Figure Podcast released a statement from the toy company saying Sting had been removed from the line because of circumstances out of their control.

The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast tweeted: "It's NOT SSSTTTIIINNNGGG! 'Due to circumstances out of our control Sting needed to be removed from Legends Series 7. We’ll look to include this figure in a future wave if he becomes available to us again.'"

Ryan Satin at Pro Wrestling Sheet has now reported that Sting is no longer under contract with WWE. Sources did tell Satin that both parties could work out a merchandising deal in the future.

Speculation has suggested that The Stinger will be making an appearance in All Elite Wrestling soon, possibly at Double Or Nothing to present the TNT Championship. This came after AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes tweeted the Cody listening GIF in response to the news that Sting's action figure had been withdrawn, and Sting himself has piled on to the rumours as he recently tweeted about Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Lance Archer.
