Report: Talent Unsure About MJF's AEW Future
MJF's future remains unclear
Aug 10, 2022
Maxwell Jacob Friedman has remained away from AEW since he demanded Tony Khan fire him on the post-Double Or Nothing episode of Dynamite on June 1. He has been removed from AEW's official roster page and the company have not mentioned him since his pipebomb promo.
A recent report even noted that Tony Khan has not talked about MJF backstage, while talent have claimed they have not heard from Friedman. MJF also reportedly had meetings in Los Angeles about other on-screen roles following June 1 and a recent rumour suggested that Friedman was filming in New Jersey with the cast members of Impractical Jokers.
This ultimately leaves Friedman's future up in the air but Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer has reported that AEW talent are assuming that MJF will eventually return to the promotion but they don't know for sure.
"Everything is secretive but everyone in AEW assumes he's coming back at some point but they don't know for sure and Khan hasn't told anyone as far as I know," Meltzer tweeted.
Relations had been difficult between MJF and Tony Khan prior to Double Or Nothing and Friedman no-showed the promotion's fan fest ahead of the pay-per-view. There were then reports that a flight was booked for Friedman out of Las Vegas but he did not board the plane.
The three-time Dynamite Diamond Ring winner did ultimately work his pay-per-view match with Wardlow and it is believed the situation began as a shoot but has since turned into a work.
