All Elite Wrestling will reportedly have a presence on NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 17 event from the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2023.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that FTR will defend the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships inside the Tokyo Dome. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler will put the gold on the line against the winners of World Tag League, a tournament that features the likes of Tetsuya Naito and SANADA, and Lance Archer and Minoru Suzuki.

Speculation has suggested the Will Ospreay vs. Shota Umino match at NJPW x Stardom Historic X-Over could lead to a rematch between Ospreay and Jon Moxley but Meltzer noted that match has not been confirmed to him. The Young Bucks were also scheduled to be a part of Wrestle Kingdom at one point but it is unknown if that is still the case. Matt and Nick Jackson have been off AEW TV since their backstage fight with Kenny Omega, CM Punk, and Ace Steel post-All Out but The Elite's return has been teased in recent weeks.

FTR have been IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions since winning the gold at June's Forbidden Door pay-per-view. They defended the titles for the first time in Japan at Battle Autumn on November 5, defeating former champions Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan.
