Report: Update On Mercedes Moné Injury

Latest on Mercedes Moné and her ankle injury

Mercedes Moné is currently out of action after the former Sasha Banks suffered an ankle injury at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Resurgence pay-per-view on May 21.

Moné was involved in the NJPW STRONG Women's Title tournament on the show and she was in action in the main event, taking on AEW's Willow Nightingale in the tournament final. Moné was originally booked to win the belt but she sustained an ankle injury after hitting a Drop Hangman on Nightingale and landing awkwardly on the outside.

The Mandalorian star immediately realised something was wrong and the winner was switched to Nightingale on the fly, with the AEW talent becoming the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women's Champion following two powerbombs after some initial confusion with the referee.

It was initially believed that Moné sustained a broken ankle but Fightful Select has since reported that NJPW are under the impression that Moné suffered a severe sprain, but not a break. Those close to Moné, however, have said she definitely sustained a sprain but there are fears of a break. There was too much swelling to know for sure, though, and more will be revealed when the swelling around the ankle goes down.

Due to the injury, there are no imminent plans for Moné to return to the ring. Speculation had tipped her to wrestle in some capacity at Forbidden Door.
