For years many WWE fans were left frustrated by Apollo Crews’ role in the company. A gifted athlete who can do seemingly anything in the ring, Crews was passed over time and again with seemingly little going for him.

However in recent months Crews changed, reflecting his real background as a child of Nigerian nobility. Billing himself as the Real African American, Crews' change has been stark, and according to a report from Wrestling News Co., Vince McMahon has taken notice. McMahon is said to be heavily behind Crews new on-screen persona, and the feeling is that 'Crews has finally found himself and he’s worked hard to improve’.

At WrestleMania 37 Night Two Crews defeated Big E for the Intercontinental Championship in a Nigerian Drum Fight, giving Crews his first reign with the illustrious championship. Crews was helped in his victory by a debuting Commander Azeez - the repackaged Dabba-Kato, and such an angle - as well as the championship win - is a great sign of trust from WWE in the gimmick. You can rest assured that Crews is likely to remain an integral part of SmackDown going forward.
