Report: When William Regal Will Return To WWE Revealed

William Regal is heading back to WWE in 2023

After less than a year in All Elite Wrestling, William Regal will leave the promotion at the end of 2022 after Tony Khan granted his request to not renew The Gentleman Villain's contract. Regal's exit was agreed upon after he explained to Khan that he wanted to go back to WWE so he could work with his son, NXT's Charlie Dempsey.

Regal will return to WWE in a backstage role and Khan noted on the ROH Final Battle media call the former Blackpool Combat Club leader can't appear on WWE TV in 2023 due to a condition in his AEW release.

Regal will begin his new backstage role in WWE in the first week of 2023, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider. If he will resume his previous role in NXT as Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting is currently unknown.

Prior to his release in January 2022, Regal had been with WWE for 22 years, first as an in-ring talent and then as a key backstage figure in the company's developmental system.
