Report: Why Gunther Vs. Chad Gable Wasn't Booked For WWE Payback

No Gunther vs. Chad Gable at WWE Payback, unless someone changes their mind

The Gunther vs. Chad Gable programme over the Intercontinental Championship looks set to reach its climax next week, with WWE announcing their title match will take place on the September 4 edition of Monday Night Raw. Should GUNTHER win, he will be mere days away from breaking the Honky Tonk Man's record reign with the Intercontinental Title.

With the match holding such major stakes, many have questioned why WWE opted against booking Gunther vs. Chad Gable on Saturday's Payback pay-per-view in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to Better Wrestling Experience, though, Triple H doesn't want the company's major events to be overbooked so the decision was made to put the match on Raw instead of Payback.

Much of the Payback lineup has already been announced, with Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor & Damian Priest in a Steel City Street Fight being added to the September 2 event on Monday's Raw.

Chad Gable and Gunther have been locked in a feud over the past month, with Gable handing Gunther his first singles loss on the main roster on August 21 when he defeated Der Ring General by count-out.
