Report: William Regal “Effectively Done” With AEW

Regal was seemingly written out on Wednesday

Sources in AEW believe William Regal is “effectively done” with the company, according to a new report from Fightful Select.

Regal’s deal with AEW reportedly lapses in December, though it’s not clear if that’s due to any special provision or not. The November 30 angle in which MJF knocked him out with a pair of brass knuckles was done to write Regal out of the company.

The report notes, “Sources in AEW all are operating on the assumption that he's leaving, and WWE sources are operating on the assumption he's rejoining the company.”

After a 22-year tenure with WWE, Regal was released from the company in January, as part of a massive wave of NXT-related cuts that also included Samoa Joe, Road Dogg, Timothy Thatcher, and others.

Regal first appeared for AEW at the Revolution pay-per-view in March, where he quickly associated with protégés Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson, forming The Blackpool Combat Club. Regal later turned on Moxley in the World title match at Full Gear on November 19, helping MJF capture the title.
