Report: WWE Considering Calling Up Gunther & Marcel Barthel To The Main Roster
Could Gunther and Marcel Barthel make their way to the WWE Main Roster?
Change could be in the air for WWE NXT 2.0, as several talents are rumoured to be in consideration for call-ups to WWE’s main roster
Two names reportedly floated for a call up are that of IMPERIUM’s Gunther and Marcel Barthel, with a report from Fightful Select suggesting that the pair are earmarked specifically for SmackDown. Interestingly, the report suggests that WWE specifically want Gunther and Barthel, with no word of a call-up for Fabian Aichner - who interestingly walked out on Barthel during a tag match on the April 5 NXT 2.0.
Gunther made a permanent move to the United States at some point in 2021, and Fightful stated that WWE sources had mentioned that the plan was always for Gunther to be called up to Raw or SmackDown after his move was made permanent.
The April 5 edition of WWE NXT 2.0 saw Gunther lose in singles competition to new NXT Champion Bron Breakker, which could be a good indication that WWE are ready to call him up. As for Aichner and Barthel, they dropped the NXT Tag Team titles to MSK on April 2 at NXT Stand & Deliver.
