Report: WWE Scraps Mei Ying Character

Mei Ying is no more

WWE have scrapped one of their supernatural gimmicks.

Mei Ying, a character that made a deal with a dragon to gain its power hundreds of years ago, was a featured Superstar on NXT following her debut in January of this year as the leader of Tian Sha.

She spent much of her time watching Xia Li and Boa's matches from a throne but Ying has only been used twice on TV since Li was moved to the main roster and she hasn't been used at all since a loss to Indi Hartwell in October, with the Tian Sha faction having been quietly disbanded.

Now, Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that WWE have scrapped the Mei Ying character altogether and the woman who portrayed her - Karen Q - will be known as Wendy Choo on NXT 2.0 going forward.

Ying and Tian Sha initially looked set for big things in NXT earlier this year and reports noted that both Triple H and Shawn Michaels were high on the character and believed it had a long-term future on what was then WWE's third brand.
