Becky Lynch made her long-awaited return to WWE on Saturday, August 21 at SummerSlam, but The Man's return didn't go as many would have expected.

Lynch was revealed as Sasha Banks' replacement for the SmackDown Women's Title match at SummerSlam, but instead of having a long match against champion Bianca Belair, Lynch hit her with a Man-handle Slam and scored the winning pinfall after 25 seconds as the shocked audience inside Allegiant Stadium looked on.

It has since emerged that Lynch asked to turn heel upon her return and WWE acquiesced to her request. She will now be presented as the top heel on Friday Night SmackDown and feud with Bianca Belair in the coming weeks.

Although many believe Belair was greatly damaged by the SummerSlam loss, her impending feud with Lynch is designed to elevate The EST of WWE, according to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said: "They went with her [on turning heel] and they're gonna try to use her to elevate Bianca Belair. That's the idea."

If Lynch's heel turn will elevate Belair ultimately remains to be seen. The feud looks set to kick off on this week's edition of Friday Night SmackDown as WWE teased a Lynch appearance during the August 23 episode of Raw.
