Report: WWE Tried To Bring Back Jeff Hardy Following His Release
Including a Hall Of Fame offer
Jan 28, 2022
Only weeks after his release from the company, WWE reportedly tried to bring Jeff Hardy back for an unlikely return.
Hardy was let go by WWE in December of 2021 only days after he was sent home following a WWE house show in which he grew sluggish and tagged out of his match before heading backstage through the ringside area.
After being sent home, WWE offered to send Hardy to rehab but The Charismatic Enigma refused, leading to his release.
In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that John Laurinaitis called Hardy a few weeks ago in an attempt to bring him back to WWE which included an offer for Hardy to be inducted into the 2022 WWE Hall Of Fame.
Hardy rejected the offer and asked for his drug test results instead as he reportedly knew he wouldn't have tested positive for recreational drugs. Hardy got the results back after six weeks.
Within WWE, the belief is they don't want Hardy to sign with AEW and reform The Hardy Boyz with brother Matt because the company think the tag team would be "revitalised" by working with the likes of The Young Bucks, FTR, The Lucha Brothers and Santana & Ortiz.
Furthermore, while AEW can't make a legal offer until after Jeff's non-compete clause expires after March 9, the belief is he will be AEW bound unless he suddenly decides to rejoin WWE.
