Report: WWE Unhappy With Ring Collapsing Spot On Raw
WWE NOT happy with how the ring collapsed on Raw
Oct 2, 2024
WWE were reportedly unhappy with the ring collapsing spot from Monday's edition of Raw.
The main event of Raw featured Braun Strowman vs. Bronson Reed in a Last Monster Standing Match. The closing moments of the match saw Reed hit Strowman with a superplex that caused the ring to collapse. Both men then struggled to make it to their feet before Seth Rollins returned and hit Bronson with a stomp on the steel steps, which allowed Strowman to win.
Many expected the ring collapsing spot due to the lack of LED boards on the ring posts but the spot still received a positive reception online and inside the arena. The response within WWE was less kind, however, and WrestleVotes reported on a Backstage Pass Q&A that WWE didn't like how the spot happened, feeling the ring collapse was not as big as they would have hoped.
"This is specifically talking about the broken ring spot. Let's just say it didn't go as planned. They didn't like the way it came off. They loved the performance of both those guys, the match itself was well praised, I mean the crowd was electric. I just think the actual spot of the ring breaking didn't have the impact that it has had in the past, a lot of people expected it. I did have a source who was there last night, the internal reaction instantly was 'Oof, not as big as we would have hoped.' I don't know if it was a mechanical thing or just the impact that it made," WrestleVotes said.
WrestleVotes then added: "To give a little more colour into what my source was referencing, this was probably the most predictable ring collapsing spot they've ever done. So when you know it's coming and it's still not great, therein lies the problem. But not taking anything away from the performance."
The ring collapsing spot has only been utilised by WWE sporadically since it first occurred following a superplex from Brock Lesnar to The Big Show in 2003.
