Rey Fenix Wins AEW International Title At Grand Slam

Fenix defeated Jon Moxley to capture the title

Rey Fenix is the new AEW International champion, after defeating Jon Moxley at AEW Grand Slam on Wednesday night in New York City.

The finish of the match was unusual, in that Fenix hit an over-the-shoulder sitout piledriver, and Moxley did not kick out of the ensuing pinfall attempt, despite referee Rick Knox holding up on the count of two. After a moment of awkwardness, Fenix lifted Moxley and hit the move a second time, to which Moxley stayed down for the pin.

After the match, Knox and trainer Michael Sampson checked on Moxley, while Fenix and Alex Abrahantes celebrated with the belt. The broadcast then hastily cut to a Samoa Joe backstage promo, during which fans could be heard applauding as Moxley (back in the arena) was able to get to his feet.

After returning from commercial, Excalibur informed the audience that Moxley was able to walk out under his own power.

The win gives Fenix his first singles title in AEW. He joins Kenny Omega as the only other AEW wrestler to hold singles, Tag, and Trios gold.

Moxley's reign as champion ends after just 17 days. He won the title from Orange Cassidy at All Out on September 3 in Chicago.
