Rhea Ripley set to miss three months of action following freak injury
Apr 17, 2024
Rhea Ripley officially vacated the Women’s World Championship on the April 15 edition of WWE Raw, with ‘Mami’s reign coming to an end after 380 days.
The injury is being chalked up as a freak accident, with Ripley believed to have injured her AC joint connecting her collarbone and shoulder during the backstage attack by Liv Morgan on the April 8 edition of Raw.
Bryan Alvarez later reported that it was an AC sprain, with it taking roughly 4-6 weeks to regain mobility in the affected area, while it could take up to three months for Ripley to be ready to return to in-ring action. A further report from PWInsider says that no recovery time has been confirmed internally within WWE as it has not been decided whether Ripley will need to undergo surgery or not.
A new Women’s World Champion will be crowned on the April 22 edition of Raw. The winner of the championship will be the second to hold the re-named, re-designed world championship ever since the title was officially changed partway through Ripley’s reign. WWE have turned the injury into a story beat for the Ripley-Morgan rivalry, with Liv taking credit for putting Ripley on the shelf during Ripley’s promo on Raw.
