Ric Flair’s Last Match may have been a financial success, but it wasn’t without its problems both before and during the event. Flair himself struggled during his final bout - a tag match with son in law Andrade el Idolo against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal - with the match revealed close to the event due to several other plans falling through.

During an appearance on Renee Paquette’s The Sessions, Diamond Dallas Page revealed how Flair approached him to be in the match, but the former WCW Champion turned it down:

“Ric actually called me and asked me if I would be in the match with him, do a six-man. At first he said, 'D, how old are you?' '66.' 'I've seen you, you're in great shape. I'd really love to have you be in this match.' I said, 'Ric, I can't do it. I feel so good, I can't take a chance on hurting myself.' He goes, 'I feel great!' 'You're not from this planet.' That's when he talked me into doing the roast and I said I would only do it for him. I'm not a roast guy," said Page.

DDP last wrestled in 2020 for AEW, teaming with QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes against MJF, The Butcher and The Blade. Before then, DDP appeared in the 2015 and 2016 Royal Rumbles, which in turn were his first matches since 2011.
