Records are made to be broken, but no-one has yet broken Ric Flair’s record of 16 world title wins.

John Cena tied Flair on 16 in 2017, but since then has become a part-time star due to his burgeoning Hollywood career. For all talk of Cena breaking the record, ‘The Nature Boy’ himself thinks Randy Orton has a better shot, saying the following to Chris Van Vliet on Insight:

"I don't think so. I don't think they will ever give it to a part-time performer,” Flair stated. “I think that Randy Orton has got a better shot at it [breaking the record]. Randy will come back, he has to have surgery. I certainly wouldn't be offended because the real number is 21. They all have a way to go.”

Although recognised by WWE as a 16-time world champion across WWE, WCW/JCP, and the NWA, Flair and others state the real number is 21, due to several overseas ‘phantom’ reigns.

Flair reiterated his admiration for Cena though, saying, “I love John Cena. He is such a credible performer and just one of the great guys in the business.”
