Roman Reigns Overtakes John Cena As WWE's Top Merch Seller
The Big Dog is now the top dog...
Aug 24, 2018
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter,
John Cena has finally lost his place as the top merch seller in WWE. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Roman Reigns is now the top... dog when it comes to merch sales in the entire company.
This is a pretty significant event in the landscape of WWE, as it shows that despite the usual boos that greet Reigns just about every time he makes his way through the curtain these days, he's liked enough in other demographics within the WWE Universe to make him more popular in terms of mech sales than the likes of AJ Styles and Ronda Rousey.
Now of course, people will argue that this recent shift is down to Cena being absent from regular WWE TV - his last appearance occurred at The Greatest Royal Rumble back in April. And while that could certainly be a big factor, it also goes to show how much of a draw The Big Dog is for the company.
Let's not mention the fact Roman also has 68 (!) unique products on the shop at the moment. Having that much has got to help him in these stakes no end.
Reigns won his first Universal Championship this past Sunday at SummerSlam by defeating Brock Lesnar, ending The Beast Incarnate's seemingly endless reign at a whopping 504 days. The next night on Raw, Roman successfully defended his new title against former holder Finn Balor, and fought off the looming threat of Mr. Monster in the Bank Braun Strowman with help from a reformed Sheild.
