Rowdy Roddy Piper Statue Unveiled At WWE WrestleMania AXXESS

The latest in WWE's statue collection...

Rowdy Roddy Piper becomes the latest wrestling icon to be immortalized with a bronze Hall of Fame statue as part of WrestleMania weekend. The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday night as part of Fan AXXESS.

Notables in attendance for the ceremony included Jimmy Hart, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Sting, and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, as well as Piper's family, including wife Kitty and their children, including son Colt (who appeared in the ring with his father at WrestleMania 12).

Previous individuals to have been immortalized with a bronze statue have included Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, The Ultimate Warrior, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, and "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.

In over four decades of involvement in professional wrestling, the irascible and unpredictable Piper established himself as a  major headline attraction, both as antagonistic villain and virtuous hero, and was the lead heel at the forefront of WWE's national expansion and the Rock n Wrestling Era in the mid-eighties. "Hot Rod" was inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame in 2005 by longtime friend and on-screen rival Flair.
