Sanga Arrested, Sent To Jail In Sexual Exploitation Case

Former WWE wrestler Sanga - real name Saurav Gurjar - has been sent to jail after being remanded in custody following his arrest on allegations of sexual exploitation.

The Times of India has reported that Gurjar was sent to jail on a 14-day custodial remand on Sunday, September 20 in Hyderabad. This comes after Gachibowli police registered a case against the former Sanga on August 15 under section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint from a 29-year-old woman.

Section 69 of the BNS states: "Whoever, by deceitful means or by making promise to marry a woman without any intention of fulfilling the same, and has sexual intercourse with her, such sexual intercourse not amounting to the offence of rape, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable to fine."

The complaint from the 29-year-old woman alleges that she first interacted with Gurjar in 2021 and they became intimate after their first meeting on December 25, 2021. During their five-year relationship, which included her living in the United States and India, Gurjar allegedly promised her wife-like rights and to eventually settle down with her despite Gurjar already being married. It is also alleged that Gurjar avoided the complainant, often blocking her on social media, while the complainant has also accused the former WWE wrestler of causing her "mental harassment, emotional distress, and financial loss", which includes her quitting her job in the United States to remain with the former Sanga.

After they relocated to Hyderabad, India, Sanga, according to the complainant, did not settle down with her and made false promises of marriage, while he also allegedly subjected her to harassment and sexual exploitation.

After the case was registered, a Look Out Circular was issued by Gachibowli police. Gurjar was arrested at Mumbai airport on the evening of September 17 after arriving in India from the Middle East. Gurjar was transported to Hyderabad on Sunday and remanded into custody on Sunday.

Saurav Gurjar signed with WWE in January 2018 and debuted on WWE NXT in March 2020 as one-half of Indus Sher with Veer Mahaan. The tag team was dropped in June, though, shortly after Sanga spoilt Keith Lee's NXT Title win at Great American Bash in an Instagram post.

Sanga would return to NXT TV in January 2022 as Grayson Waller's bodyguard, an alliance which remained in place until April of that year. Sanga then reformed Indus Sher with Veer that October and they moved to the main roster in 2023. In April 2024, Sanga was released by WWE as part of post-WrestleMania roster cuts.

Following his WWE exit, Sanga resumed his acting career in India.
