A former Cruiserweight Champion looks to be on their way to the WWE main roster.
Santos Escobar went one-on-one with Tony D'Angelo on Tuesday's special 'Heatwave' edition of NXT with the stipulation that Legado Del Fantasma would be free from D'Angelo's family if Escobar won but the former El Hijo del Fantasma would be banished from NXT if he lost.
In the final moments of the match, D'Angelo's crowbar and Escobar's brass knuckles were in the ring and Big Tony grabbed his weapon first, decking Escobar before he made the cover for the win. As a result, Escobar has to leave WWE NXT.
Tuesday's match came about after Escobar returned to the developmental brand two weeks ago and cost Tony D'Angelo the NXT North American Championship.
Escobar had been a part of NXT since 2020 and he was often a featured performer on the show, holding the Cruiserweight Championship for 321 days. He unsuccessfully challenged for the NXT Title earlier this year, losing to Bron Breakker.
