Santos Escobar is set for a stint on the sidelines, it has been revealed.

Fightful Select has reported that Santos Escobar actually worked AAA Rey de Reyes on Saturday, March 14 while suffering from an injury. Escobar then aggravated the injury during the Rey de Reyes final four-way against El Grande Americano, Original El Grande Americano, and La Parka. Now, the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion is set to undergo surgery on March 19 for a torn triceps.

Santos Escobar originally sustained the injury while working with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. at NXT house shows over Royal Rumble weekend.

Santos Escobar has not wrestled on WWE TV since May 2025, but the former Legado del Fantasma leader has made regular appearances in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide since he made his return on the January 17 episode of AAA on FOX Latin America.

Escobar kicked off a feud with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. over the AAA Latin American Championship upon his return, but that programme will ultimately need to be changed or scrapped entirely due to Escobar's injury.

Santos Escobar has been signed to WWE since August 2019. He briefly exited the company when his contract expired in October 2025 but he signed a new "very big money" deal just hours later to return to the organisation.
