The singles match between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu on the March 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown won't be the end of their rivalry.

WWE's own programming has hinted that Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu will continue all the way to WrestleMania 42, and that is indeed the case. Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that McIntyre vs. Fatu will be happening at WrestleMania and their match on SmackDown is taking place to set up the contest at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu have been feuding since September 2025 around McIntyre's programme with Cody Rhodes over the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Fatu was written off WWE TV in October 2025 in an unseen backstage attack ahead of a scheduled match with Drew McIntyre, with the angle taking place so Fatu could undergo extensive dental surgery. Fatu returned on the January 9 episode of SmackDown and unintentionally helped McIntyre become Undisputed WWE Champion by attacking both Irn Dru and Cody Rhodes during their Three Stages of Hell Match, which allowed McIntyre to escape the cage. Fatu then interfered to help cost McIntyre the WWE Title on March 6, with Cody Rhodes regaining the belt soon after Fatu stopped Drew from using a steel chair.

The programme between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu continued on March 13, with McIntyre quitting WWE before he returned later in the night and cost Fatu his match against Trick Williams.
