Full spoilers for tonight's WWE SmackDown

To give wrestlers some time off over the festive period, WWE decided to tape the December 22 edition of Friday Night SmackDown one week in advance on December 15. 

The show featured some major developments with a couple of main roster returns, the final being set for the United States Championship number one contender's tournament, and an announcement with big implications for the world title scene. 

Full spoilers for tonight's WWE SmackDown:

  • Santos Escobar def. Bobby Lashley - United States Title Tournament Semi-Final - Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza returned to the main roster to help Escobar win the match. 
  • Dragon Lee def. Butch
  • Nick Aldis announced LA Knight vs. AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton will take place at SmackDown: New Year's Revolution to determine who will challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Royal Rumble. 
  • Bianca Belair, Michin, & Zelina Vega def. Damage CTRL
  • Kevin Owens def. Carmelo Hayes - United States Title Tournament Semi-Final
  • AJ Styles def. Solo Sikoa via DQ - A brawl involving the Bloodline, LA Knight, and Randy Orton then capped off the show.
