Sting Bids Farewell To Face Paint After Final In-Character Convention Appearance

After close to 40 years, Sting will no longer wear his face paint, at least at conventions.

The Icon had the final stop of his 2025 or Never farewell tour on December 20 at WrestleVerse Fest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with it being the final time Sting will wear face paint for convention appearances.

Speaking with Denise Salcedo, Sting revealed how he was feeling after retiring the face paint.

"I feel completely normal. This is just another gig for me. But, you have people like my daughter, for example, who's sending these emojis on the phone, the crying emojis. 'Dad, this is your last one ever.' Then all my buddies and all my friends coming here and being a part of this. It is those kind of moments because everyone's feeding it, where it's like this strong undercurrent of 'Wow, this is the end. This really is it.' I don't know how to sum it up into words, but the undercurrent is definitely there. Bittersweet for sure," Sting said.

"I'll be glad to get off the airplanes and trains and automobiles, but I will miss the people for sure. Not just the roar of the crowd wrestling, but these meet and greets, the one-on-ones, and the storytime telling. It's amazing to hear everything that fans have to say. They're just so appreciative and grateful, and so am I."

While he won't be donning the face paint for conventions moving forward, that doesn't mean Sting is finished with All Elite Wrestling.

"I just want to say thank you. I love you, all of you. I do believe that we've had a love affair going on for many decades now, and I will miss all of you for sure. But there will be little bits and pieces with AEW I'm sure down the road," Sting added.

Sting has been retired from pro wrestling since AEW Revolution 2024 when he and Darby Allin defeated The Young Bucks in Sting's final match. Sting has made sporadic appearances in AEW since then, making the save for Darby at All In 2024 and helping Allin defeat Jon Moxley in an I Quit Match at WrestleDream 2025.
