'The Journey Takes Me Away Now' - John Cena Confirms Recent WWE Run Ended At SummerSlam 2021

John Cena's most recent WWE run as come to a conclusion

John Cena has commented on the 'Summer Of Cena' coming to an end following WWE SummerSlam 2021, saying his journey 'takes me away now' but indicated he will return to the promotion again.

Cena returned to WWE at Money In The Bank 2021 and wrestled 14 matches across tapings, live events and at SummerSlam 2021 on Saturday, where the 16-time World Champion was defeated in the main event by Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

With the end of SummerSlam also bringing a conclusion to the 'Summer of Cena', the man himself has taken to Twitter to confirm he's stepping away from WWE once again due to other commitments.

Cena thanked his fans and the promotion for welcoming him back, and suggested his most recent run won't be the last.

Writing on social media, Cena said: "Words cannot describe how appreciative I am that the @WWEUniverse allowed me the opportunity to return and perform. Thank you staff, superstars, and most of all FANS for giving me an unforgettable summer at 'home' with my 'family'.

"The journey takes me away now but I’ll C U soon."

Reports have indicated that there is no timetable in WWE for Cena to make another return and string of appearances, due to his filming and movie commitments. Cena has been advertised for the September 10 Friday Night SmackDown taping at Madison Square Garden.
