The War Report - February 10 2021: NXT Falls Flat As AEW Dynamite Steps Up
NXT vs AEW: Dynamite - which was the better show this week?
full half throttle into Take Over this week, so everything was about the big sell. However, for the Women’s Title and Men’s Title all we got were the afore mentioned video packages, then some lame face offs at the end. Damp squib.
Scarlett and Karrion Kross were out for blood. First Regal was coerced by Scarlett into making Kross vs Santos Escobar next week, then after Escobar sent his goons to do his dirty work, Kross left them lying backstage then growled into the camera.
Dexter Lumis put the fear of God into Austin Theory which is always good, and Kushida and Johnny Gargano got three segments to hammer home their title match. Slight overkill, but it was fun.
The finals were set for both Dusty Cups; MSK vs Grizzled Young Veterans, and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon vs Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez - winners of the Women’s final will also recieve a Women’s Tag Title shot.
Whilst elsewhere Kayden and Kacy were concerned about Xia Li, before getting battered by Li in a scene reminiscent of a Mortal Kombat cutscene. Cheesey, but good cheese.
AEW packed tons into this week’s Dynamite, with 11 or 12 non match segments to drive storylines.
The main beat was Sammy Guevara finally having enough of MJF, first by digging him in the ribs as MJF was trying to frame him, then by officially quitting the Inner Circle and turning face in the process. Sammy later said he needed “some time away from this place” so fingers crossed he pops over to IMPACT for a few matches.
While Sting was out for his promo, Darby Allin got jumped by Team Taz in the parking lot, zipped into a bodybag, then dragged off behind a car. £2 says that’s how Darby gets his kicks.
There was more distrust between The Good Brothers and The Young Bucks. While the inevitable Title vs Title match will be banging, I’m more interested in The Bucks becoming complete wronguns with Kenny. They're long overdue a proper heel turn.
Thunder Rosa said she’s still got her eye on Britt Baker, as well as every Women’s Title going. And Big Money Matt Hardy got Hangman Page drunk and coerced him into signing with his ‘agency’ as the camera operator documented it as proof, while The Dark Order were heartbroken elsewhere in the building.
Oh and Miro was fuming about the wedding last week. Aren’t we all mate.
Winner: AEW. Lots of moving parts in play, more-so than any episode of Dynamite I can recall in recent history.
