Tony Khan Comments On Adam Cole's 'Very Challenging Recovery' & In-Ring Return

Tony Khan on Adam Cole possibly retiring

After several months off TV, Adam Cole returned to All Elite Wrestling on the January 11 episode of Dynamite to declare that he is back and ready to take on the best the promotion has to offer.

Cole had been out of action since June 2022 after he suffered back-to-back concussions and there was reportedly concern that the three-time ROH World Champion would never be able to wrestle again.

Speaking on the In The Kliq Podcast about Cole's return, AEW President Tony Khan admitted the former NXT Champion had a "very challenging recovery." Now, though, Khan is just excited about Cole getting closer to an in-ring return.

"Well, I don't think he ever [ruled out returning to the ring]. Certainly, it was a very challenging recovery, and there were points where, I'm sure, he had to question if he was going to make it back or, you know, what he was putting himself through because, like he said, he didn't leave the house to do anything but brain therapy. He wanted it so bad. He wants so bad to come back to AEW, to get back in the ring and wrestle for the fans on Wednesdays on TBS, and Fridays on TNT. That's his dream," Khan said.

"For us, it's a dream come true having Adam Cole be a part of the AEW roster. It's very exciting that he's getting closer and closer to making a comeback. It's a really inspirational story, and people don't even know the half of it yet. I'm excited for people to find out more about what Adam Cole has been through."

While he did not wrestle after the Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June, Cole did briefly return to Dynamite to turn on The Young Bucks with Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish. The plan appeared to be to set up an Elite vs. Undisputed Elite programme but Kyle O'Reilly is currently on the shelf following neck fusion surgery, while Bobby Fish is no longer under contract with AEW. If AEW still plan to revisit Cole's heel turn on The Young Bucks at a later date is unknown.
