While fans had waited years for Sting to turn up in WWE, The Icon's run in Vince McMahon's promotion was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The former WCW star had a big debut in WWE at Survivor Series 2014 which built to a match against Triple H at WrestleMania 31. Instead of giving Sting a huge win in his debut, though, WWE used the match to seemingly bury WCW one more time and both Sting and the nWo failed to overcome Triple H and D-Generation X, with The Game winning the match following a sledgehammer shot to the then 56-year-old.

Sting would then wrestle a few more times for WWE, including in a WWE Title match against Seth Rollins at Night Of Champions 2015. The Franchise was rocked following a Buckle Bomb, though, and he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and retired shortly after.

While his in-ring career looked to be over, Sting returned to wrestling with AEW in December 2020 and he has since performed in a handful of widely-praised matches alongside Darby Allin.

Speaking on My Mom's Basement, Tony Khan noted Sting's AEW run has been "amazing" so far, and the AEW president was critical of WWE's past booking of the former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

“It’s pretty amazing the run Sting has had because, to be honest... Sting was wanting to get back into wrestling. What a great comeback Sting had. It had been a while since Sting won wrestling matches like the last time we saw Sting, he wasn’t winning. The whole time he was back in his last run in the competition, they screwed him out of multiple matches, let’s be honest. He should have been presented better and that’s one thing I won’t back down on. Sting deserves to be treated like one of the great legends in wrestling and I set out to do that from the beginning with him," Khan said.
