Tony Khan Excited About Future AEW Debut In Canada

The AEW owner is excited about the company's future debut in Canada

AEW Owner & CEO Tony Khan has expressed his excitement about the promotion's future debut in Canada.

Khan told the Toronto Star that it's not a case of 'if' but 'when' AEW start putting on events in the Great White North. They had intended to run shows in Canada in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic scuppered plans.

"We're all back on the road this past year and we've been all over America, but I do look forward to bringing AEW live events to Canada soon", he said.

Khan added: "I think we have a chance to really build a strong presence, not only what we've established on television with TSN, but also with live events for the fans".

Khan noted that Toronto would be a logical place for them to start, given the size of the city and its professional wrestling roots, but that he was also considering shows in Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver for various reasons.

AEW currently have several notable Canadian stars on their roster, including Chris Jericho, Christian Cage, Kenny Omega and Kyle O'Reilly.

While discussing the factors that would go into choosing specific arenas, Khan said the "most important thing is the quality of the arena for the fans and the wrestlers and the staff, and then followed by the size for the opportunity to create revenue", before adding that the logistics of shooting live television would also affect any decision.
