Tony Schiavone Comments On The Possibility Of Jay White Signing With AEW

Switchblade "quit" NJPW following New Year Dash

The wrestling world has been buzzing over the future of Jay White ever since the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion said he was done with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

The situation around his future remains unclear. Super J-Cast reported soon after Wrestle Kingdom that WWE was "making a strong play" to sign White and the odds of him remaining in New Japan were 50/50. His contract is rumoured to be up at the end of January.

Dave Meltzer then reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that White told AEW representatives back in 2018 that he had just signed a new seven-year deal with NJPW. Switchblade has also been featured on posters for New Japan's upcoming events at Korakuen Hall.

If White's contract is indeed up at the end of the month, some wondered if he would jump to AEW. Tony Schiavone quelled expectations of seeing White in the young promotion during the Dynamite Post-Show, though.

After being asked if the Bullet Club member would be joining AEW, Schiavone said: "Don't think so. I think he's pretty much locked into what he's doing there."
