No sooner had Trey Baxter been released from his WWE NXT contract then he was announcing his return to the Indies, with Baxter - once again going under the name Blake Christian - appearing for GCW at the So Alive event on December 4, and the Blood on the Hills show on December 17.

Christian confirmed the bookings on his Twitter account, simply Tweeting “See you in exactly 30 days #AllHeart” referencing his 30 day no compete clause, standard for NXT contracted wrestlers.

Christian last wrestled for GCW in January 2021, losing a career vs. Title match against then GCW World Champion Rickey Shane Page at the GCW Fight Forever: The Wrld On GCW Part III.

After GCW, Christian wrestled a handful of matches for IMPACT Wrestling and NJPW STRONG, before his WWE signing was announced in February 2021, after Christian wrestled a try-out in October 2020.

Taking the name Trey Baxter, he debuted for NXT in June, losing to Cruiserweight Champion KUSHIDA in a title bout. Since then Baxter wrestled across NXT and 205 Live, before his release on November 4.
